An Ohio man is accused of handcuffing his wife inside a dog cage after they were married in Las Vegas.

Police say the woman escaped after days of the mistreatment.

Pete Kenworthy has the details.

"He had her handcuffed inside of the cage, would hold her against her will inside the cage for 2 - 4 hours at a time, release her from the cage, re-handcuff her outside the cage, let 2 dogs inside the cage and crate the dogs."

HERE ON 19TH STREET NORTHWEST, NEIGHBORS SAY THAT MATTHEW GEORGE AND MARY SWIHART FOUGHT OFTEN - YELLING OBSCENITIES AT ALL HOURS OF THE DAY AND NIGHT - MANY TIMES OUTSIDE IN THE DRIVEWAY.

CANTON POLICE SAY THAT ON SATURDAY, GEORGE FIRED GUNSHOTS BOTH INTO THE FLOOR AND AT MARY AFTER FOUR DAYS OF MISTREATING HER.

"At some point in time, she convinced him to un-handcuff her so she could use the restroom, at that time, she chose to run out of the house, she began screaming. We believe he fired one more round from his handgun into her direction, there were shell casings all over the house."

GEORGE HAS A HISTORY OF BOTH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND DRUG CHARGES... HE AND MARY ALSO HAVE A 20-MONTH OLD SON - WHO WAS HOME AT THE TIME WHEN A GUN WAS FIRED AND HIS MOTHER WAS LOCKED IN A CAGE.

"All these domestic situations are violent but in a case where a female is kept captive in a dog crate, this is the first in my experience."

Police say they tracked down the husband hours later in Springfield.

He had taken several pills and is currently in the hospital.

Once released, he'll be charged with abduction, child endangerment, assault and domestic violence.

Sheriff Covers Medic's $60 Towing Bill

A Navy medic is being reimbursed for a $60 towing bill he received while he was helping perform CPR on a heart attack victim.

Jackson County Undersheriff Tom Finco said the department was paying back Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Tim Moore as "a goodwill gesture"

"(Moore) said it wasn't necessary, he understood, but we sent him a check anyway," Finco said.

Moore, 24, who had just returned from Iraq, was driving on Interstate 94 on April 2 when he saw an ambulance parked on the side. He pulled over and comforted a woman whose fiance had suffered a heart attack inside the ambulance.

When the rescuers learned of Moore's medical training, they asked if he would help administer CPR. He left his truck on the exit ramp and got in. The man died at Foote Hospital in Jackson.

In the meantime, Moore's truck — parked partly over the white line marking the side of the road — was deemed a travel hazard and towed.

Moore, now stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., said people have been sending checks to his parents after word spread about the towing bill, but he plans to donate that money to veterans' charities.

In Nottingham City, England, a woman lost her rights to see her newborn child. While in a fight with her boyfriend, the 18 year old mother, known only as G, threw a phone charger at him during a visit with her child in the company of a social worker. When the social worker asked for the child the woman threw the baby at the social worker who was about 18 inches away. She thusly, and justifiably, lost her rights to see her child. She then made a statement asserting that she is a good mother and that she does not have mental health problems. Obviously, this completely stable woman threw her child. If only more mothers could be so stable. Here is where a good eye roll is added.

On the night of his wedding, a German farmer learned that his wife was a man. Wolfgang Zober, 55, said he turned to Internet dating because he had been unlucky in love, and hit it off immediately with Randy Victoria, 38.

"We only had a kiss and cuddle before we married. But on my wedding night, she told me she had a penis - and that her real name was Ralf. I was devastated," he said.

After snorting cocaine, popping Valium, and smoking marijuana, a California man went for a drive - smashing into as many cars as he could in what he claims was part of a secret government experiment, police said.

Antonio Patrinostro, 43, of San Rafael, said the experiment was part of extraterrestrial-related research at Area 51 in Nevada.

Undignified deaths

A 39-year-old man who had been cited 32 times for driving without a seat belt (and who finally rigged a fake belt in his car to create the illusion that he was belted in) was killed in a low-impact car crash that would not have been fatal to a belted driver (Okata, New Zealand; coroner’s inquest, February).

And a 74-year-old man died of hypothermia after sneaking out of a nursing home at 4:30 a.m. to smoke (Winnipeg, Manitoba; January).

Spokane police department gets weird questions on tip line, including how to thaw a turkey

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane police and sheriff's departments operate a tip line to record information from callers about crimes. It gets about a dozen calls a day, but not all are tips.

The sheriff's department said people call with questions about boating regulations and what businesses are open on holidays.

Other questions on the police tip line asked how to thaw a 12-pound turkey, how long to wait after a death to read a will, and, "Who can I get to come over and pick up my claw-foot bathtub?"

Clerk Throws Cans of Tobacco at Robber

A cigarette store cashier has snuffed out a robbery. Police said a masked man flashed a knife at the Cigarette Outlet on Friday and forced one employee to the floor, then demanded money from another worker, Ruth Wright.

Instead of cash, Wright threw two cans of chewing tobacco at the robber, and one hit him in the face.

Officers said a customer then tackled the man, but the robber broke free and bolted out the door.

A cashier, Kittie Peacock, said the store had been robbed at least once before.

NY Man Tries Bogus Bill for Bail

(04-11) 13:14 PDT Melville, N.Y. (AP) --

Police say it was no surprise a bogus $50 bill got a Long Island man arrested: He was trying to use it to pay his bail on a traffic charge. The transaction compounded Cyheam Forney's legal problems and landed him in jail.

Police say they spotted the 31-year-old Forney making an illegal left turn in Melville on Thursday and discovered his license had been suspended.

Forney was arrested on a misdemeanor suspended license charge — until officers said he proffered the counterfeit currency as bail money. He was being held early Friday on a felony charge of possessing a forged instrument.

No telephone number could be found for Forney at the address police had for him, and they didn't know whether he had a lawyer.

Men Accused of Stealing Swimming Pool

(04-11) 19:49 PDT Granby, Conn. (AP) --

Two Massachusetts men are accused of stealing a swimming pool from a Granby backyard. Timothy Morin, 37, and David Hawley, 18, both of Westfield, were charged Friday with trespassing, larceny, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools.

Granby police say they found parts from the disassembled aboveground pool in the rear seat of the men's car, about a mile away from the yard where the pool had stood.

Police say the men told them they took the pool for scrap metal and felt they were doing the owners a favor by getting rid of it for them.

Police also recovered from the car: seven automotive batteries, a coil of copper pipe, wire with a copper core, an aluminum pneumatic manifold with brass fittings, bolt cutters, metal shears and a hammer.

Suspect Nabbed After Trying to Skip Fare

(04-11) 14:28 PDT LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) --

For a fugitive riding public transportation, it didn't pay to be cheap. A North Carolina bank robbery suspect is in custody after he was caught taking a free ride on Baltimore's light rail.

A ticket on the train costs $1.60. But the Maryland Transit Administration said Isaac Ray Dunn, 58, didn't have one when an MTA police officer asked passengers to show their tickets on Thursday afternoon at the North Linthicum stop south of the city.

After arresting Dunn for failing to buy a ticket, police did a check for outstanding warrants and found out he's wanted for a bank robbery in Charlotte, N.C.

Police turned Dunn over to U.S. Marshals.

Navy Medic Gets Bill After Helping Out

(04-12) 12:10 PDT Jackson, Mich. (AP) --

A Navy medic who stopped to calm a woman whose husband was having a heart attack — and helped an ambulance crew perform CPR on the man en route to a hospital — ended up with a $60 towing bill.

Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Tim Moore was driving on Interstate 94 near Jackson on April 2 when he saw an ambulance parked along the eastbound lane, the Jackson Citizen Patriot reported.

He said he pulled over to try to help calm the woman, who was near the ambulance. When the rescuers learned of Moore's medical training, they asked if he would help administer CPR on the way to Foote Hospital.

"I pulled over in a bit of a hurry," said Moore, who since has returned to Camp Lejeune, N.C. "Of course, when they asked me to do CPR, I just locked the truck and didn't really think about moving it."

The man died in the emergency room.

When Moore returned to the side of the interstate two hours later, the truck was missing. It turns out the truck — parked partly over the white line marking the side of the road — was considered a travel hazard and towed.

Jackson County Undersheriff Tom Finco said deputies tried to call Moore before the tow but got no answer at the number they had on record. The charge was levied by the towing company.

"It's very unfortunate he stopped to do a good deed and that's what happened," Finco said, "but we definitely don't want his vehicle left there and hit by another car traveling down the ramp."

Moore said he was a little upset at the time. Now, he says: "It's only $60."
